Sweet Life.

"The best song wasn't the single. But you couldn't turn your radio down..."

Today, I resigned from a job that I didn't love. (Trust me, that was the nicest possible way to state that. Lol) More importantly, I've been hired at Radio One DC. Anybody who knows me knows how big this is. I've ALWAYS wanted to work in radio. That's what I wrote my papers about in high school. It's why I decided to get a Communications degree from Temple University. It's the reason that I did an internship at Radio One Philadelphia (which at this point, is the best experience that I've ever had in my life. Shout out to everybody there!)

Just the thought that someone is willing to pay me for something that I would honestly do for free is beyond me. It's truly the SWEET LIFE.

To make this day even better, one of my favorite artists out right now, Frank Ocean, released a new song. He's amazing. I love him. I'm pretty sure that his album is going to be my favorite of the year (which is pretty big because I am absolutely IN LOVE with Chris Brown's "Fortune" album right now. Lol) Anyway, I've been dying for this Frank Ocean album forever and the fact that it's 11 days away is an upgrade to my life.

The fact that I will see him live in concert in 17 days is an even bigger enhancement to my existence. If I ever get a chance to meet him, I'll thank him for allowing me to fall in love with music for the millionth time.

I just thought that it was so fitting for him to release this song on the day that my sweet life is beginning. It's truly poetic.

Thanks to everybody who hit me up today. You really made this feel like my birthday LOL. Let's all enjoy the "Sweet Life":

I Put On - "Ice"

"...hot as ice can get..."

Maybe Kelly Rowland and Lil Wayne should make a whole album. LOL I love this song. Her vocals have grown so much over the years. I'm impressed.

I'm on the team that helps promotes Ryan, but TRUST, I wouldn't do it if I didn't love his music. Dude is AMAZING.

To say that I love this song is an absolute understatement! That "girl, get ya Jamie on...I don't really care what u blame it on" line is my sh*t. I'd love to hear this in the club!!! I can't wait til the video is done because I KNOW it's gonna be hot.

Now, I usually don't provide download links on my blog because I'm not trying to get shut down LOL...but I got you with this one! You can't really call yourself a music head if you don't support great up-and-coming artists.

Amen.

"I'm just telling you the basics of growing up with ya friends and becoming the one that made it."

The first thought that I had when I heard this song was "I wish that I was in the studio when this was made." Not just for the rapping, I would have sat through the whole process of putting this beat together. This is that epic "Watch The Throne" kind of production. The whole concept of the song is beyond dope and Meek Mill's flow is....sheeeeesh! A Drake verse never hurt anyone and Jeremiah smoothed it all the way out.

I'm embarrassed to even say how many times I have listened to this song today. LOL. And if you asked me if I'll be listening to it for the rest of the day then I'd say "chuuuuuuurch!" :)

Play Ya Cards Right. Maybe We Could Fall In Love....

"I hope that chivalry ain't dead to you, boy, cuz I'm grown..."

Yesterday, Brandy released her new single with Chris Brown called "Put It Down"...and this is my JAM!!!! She literally did everything right on this song. The production...the concept...the lyrics...her vocals...the Breezy collaboration - the track is HOT. If I was an artist trying to make a comeback, this is EXACTLY what I would have reintroduced myself to the world with.

Take a listen to one of my new favorite songs below:

"But still I'm letting you know I got the sweetest heart. Any man that wants this babe, he gon' have to work hard..."

Les is more baby ;)

Flooded With New Music As Promised :)

I finally got a chance to really sit, write and upload music. Enjoy! (Make sure that you click "Older Posts" at the bottom because all of today's posts didn't fit on the first page.)

Les is More ;)

Come on.

Teyana Taylor HAS to be the most underrated artist of the last few years. She's an amazing vocalist. I honestly don't think that anybody was more excited than me when this girl FINALLY released a full body of work. If you haven't already downloaded her mixtape, do that. This "Come On" track is one of my favorites but she has a lot of hits on this mixtape. I would have paid money for it if it wasn't free :)

Popcaan!

I'm a huge reggae fan so it was easy for me to like Popcaan. I heard the "Raving" track awhile ago and I was HYPE about this "Only Man She Want" song when I first heard it. THEN, I found the remix with Busta Rhymes. Threw that on repeat and the rest is history.

(Only Man She Want Remix)

(Raving)

I think she ready.

Typically, I post music on here that I think stands out amongst all the crap that gets released. It's usually cleverly written, exceptionally produced, or vocally superior in my opinion.

That's NOT what this is. (Except for the "exceptionally produced" part. THIS BEAT IS TOUGH!)

This is a ratchet song that has no valuable message...that I LOVE. I randomly found this track when I was doing a little research to try to figure out who this new Iggy Azalea girl is. I'm a huge T.I. fan, so when I heard that he signed her to Grand Hustle, I had to see what was up with her. When I found the video for this song, I was so surprised at how much swag she has for an Australian chick. So, I watched it again. Next thing you know, the song is stuck is my head. And now I like it.

I don't who the FKi guys are or where they came from. The track is produced by Diplo (the same guy who produced Wale's "Slight Work") and Iggy's verse is OK. But she got a few extra cool points for referencing the movie "Sandlot"...my brother and I watched that a million times when we were little. I guess it was hot in Australia too.

Breathe.

Monica's newest album dropped earlier this week. It's a pretty solid effort. I can't say that it's one of my favorites but I just really like Monica, as an artist and as a person. I went through a period when I didn't really know if I liked her voice but I think that she's back to really singing.  I still prefer the "Why I Love You So Much" version of Monica but this new, grown up, married-to-Shannon-Brown version of Monica is cool too lol.

After I listened to the whole album, this "Breathe" track got put on repeat for a little while. And you already know what that means...Free pass to be featured on the blog! ;)

Can you meet me by the lake? At the park? Or in ya room?

"I don't bore you to death 'cause I adore you."

As a Frank Ocean lover, I have to check for him on the Odd Future projects. And although I think Tyler is crazy as hell, I love the way he starts this song. Frank KILLED it. I'm so in love with him. (Which is apparent based on the million other times that I talk about him on this blog.) I actually don't even like the whole song. It has this random silence in the middle of the song and I basically only need the parts prior to that lol

Lonely.

It's Tank. It's Breezy. Ladies, it's for us.

I Put On: "Tell Her Again" by Sterling Simms & Meek Mill

For me, Sterling Simms falls into that category with Kevin Cossom: talented writers, underrated singers, that still grind hard enough to always be around relevant artists. I can't wait until they get all the way on.

Anyway, I LOVE THIS SONG. The production is beyond dope. I've always been a fan of the reggae-fused R&B songs. (I don't know how real West Indians will feel about it but...whatever. lol) And Meek Mill is on fire these days. I'm glad to see him shining. (Philly, I see you!!!!)

Automatic.

Nicki Minaj took notes of the success that she achieved from "Super Bass" and RAN with it. I was shocked at how much singing and dance music was on this new album. I was hoping to see more of the Nicki that showed up on "Monster" but I can't lie, I kinda like this Nicki too. "Starships" is my jam and this "Automatic" track goes in! I would love to hear this in a party! *Starts singing* "I can't control the way I'm moving my hips..."

Fly Together.

Red Cafe is really random to me. He never gets all the way on, but then again, I don't know if he deserves to be. I feel like he's one of those New York rappers that only New Yorkers really love. Coincidentally, all of the songs of his that I like were sent to me by New Yorkers lol I also think that I like his songs mostly because of the production and the features...not really because of his skills. I don't mean for this to sound like a Red Cafe bashing session, because he's cool....but the main reason that I love this song is the beat and Trey Songz's verse lol Whatever. Here it is. (Shout out to Jaggon!)

I can't wait for Chris Brown's new album.

"When you got it all, everybody want something."

This kid is too talented. I wasn't a fan of him rapping at first, but it's started to grow on me and it's even better when he sings his own hooks. I'm in love with the production of this track (that drum breakdown? Sheeeesh...) and it's a pretty solid collaboration. Based on the other singles and a few of the leaked songs that I've heard, I'm pretty sure that this album is going to be amazing. Chris Brown is one of the artists that I still go out and buy physical copies of the CDs for. I'm excited about this one :)

Arch & Point

It's Miguel. Need I say more?

I Put On: "Cashin' Out" by Ca$h Out

Last week, I got in the car, turned on the radio, and heard this song. I turned it up a little bit...then a little bit more...before it was over, I ended up blasting it. LOL That beat is CRAZY! He's obviously not rapping about anything significant but it's a great club song. It has that Roscoe Dash feel to it. Either way, it's been on heavy rotation in my iPod, so I figured it deserved a spot on the blog. You're welcome :)

Cold Crush.

I didn't really love this new Estelle album. It was OK but o be completely honest, I don't think that she's been able to top her first album. Regardless, I LOVE this "Cold Crush" track. It's just one of those relate-able songs that people understand and the production is dope.

Whip Appeal.

I literally haven't heard a Frank Ocean song that I didn't like. I think it's clever how he flipped the old Babyface phrase and made it about a woman's car. Musically, he can do no wrong for me. :) Now, if only he would drop a damn album....smh.

I Put On: "Nobody" by John West

I randomly stumbled across this dude, John West, and I immediately appreciated his smoothness. He has a few tracks floating around, but this one is my favorite.

Melanie Fiona - "I Been That Girl"

"Heard about the tires on his brand new car,
I knew that he'd drive you crazy..."

I'm the biggest fan of realness....in life, in people, in conversations, and certainly in music. Melanie Fiona is good for that. And she has the voice to convey the realness that she sings about. I haven't been the girl that she's talking about in "I Been That Girl" but I've heard millions of stories about her, so I know that she exists somewhere. Or everywhere.

After listening to "The MF Life" a few times, I kept coming back to this song, and then before I knew it, it was on repeat. So being the music junkie that I am, I just HAD to know who wrote it. I should have known that Drake was responsible for this. I swear that I love that dude even when I don't know that I'm loving him. And the more I listen to the song, it's too obvious that this is his work, the melody, the adlibs, the realness.

I guess that the reason that this is getting a place on the blog is because I just LOVE songs like this. Simple tracks about simple things that happen to simple people in the most complicated ways. It honestly doesn't get any more real than that.

Black. American. Princess.

I finally got a chance to skim through the "Somethin Soulful" and honestly, I didn't hear a song that I couldn't love. But I didn't really get a chance to listen to whole thing because when I tried to skim through "B.A.P.S." I couldn't only listen to a snippet. I ended up listening to the whole thing. And I started it over. Over and over again.

When I saw the title, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into...but THAT BEAT ....sheeeeeeeeeeeesh.

I love these brothers. I think that they've been flying under the radar for wayyyyyy too long. You can listen to my favorite song below...but you should probably just go ahead and download the mixtape here.

I'm probably going to be SLV's #1 fan.

One of the great things about Valentine's Days, other than all of the spreading of love and flowers and candy and stuff, is that people tend to release new free music. If I remember correctly, I think Chris Brown and Willie from Day 26 dropped dope mixtapes a couple years ago on Vday, along with a few other people. Frankly, I think it's a great gift from artists. (Who doesn't want free music?) This year, not only can you find mixtapes from Raheem DeVaughn and Jake & Papa, but SLV released a new track. (I haven't listened to that Jake & Papa mixtape yet but don't sleep on them...I'll probably post something about that later.)

But anyway, this SLV (which stands for Summer Leather Vest) song called "Tell Him Somthing" has been on repeat for a good part of the day (which is higly inappropriate for work...but whatever lol). I love this group. I've only heard a few of their songs, but I love all of them, especially "Unison."

I like Emanny, but the more I listened to "Tell Him Something", I kept wishing that it was Trey Songz. It just sounds like a track that could have went on Anticipation 2. LOL. But don't get me wrong, Emanny killed it.

The bottom line is: if they dropped an album, I'd make that trip to Best Buy and get my Wells Fargo card swiped for that. Check it out:

P.S - Joey's swag >>>>>>>>

Frank Ocean - "Voodoo"

"He wrapped the whole wide world in a wedding band. And put the whole wide world on her hands."

We can only pray that a longer version of this comes out soon. Until then, this 1:37 will be on repeat.

FlashBackTrack: "Beautiful" by Damien Marley ft. Bobby Brown

First and foremost, I think it should be known that I have always been and will always be a diehard Bobby Brown fan. Apparently, the first concert that I ever went to was New Kids On the Block (that's what my mother told me lol) but the first one that I actually remember was Bobby Brown. Capital Center. 1992. (If I search my house hard enough, I might even find my Bobby Brown bandana from that show...judge me if you want lol)

Either way, through all of the craziness that has taken place in his life, there is still no one who sings quite like Bobby does. So, when he hopped on this Damien Marley song after being gone for awhile, I WAS HYPE. I stumbled across the video a couple days ago and figured that it deserved a spot on the blog. :)

The Kobe System.

"You don't need anyone's advice. That's how I know you need mine."

Kobe haters are gonna HATE this "Kobe System" ad campaign. But surprisingly (sarcasm), I LOVE THEM. I think they're absolutely hilarious. So, as an ode to my favorite basketball player in the game and in honor of his 4th consecutive 40-point game, here's all of the "Kobe System" commercials that I could find. :)

Stay Schemin'. (The Video)

"You think Drake would pull some shit like that? Ya never know!"

I'm not a huge Rick Ross fan. In fact, I think that this new "Rich Forever" mixtape sounds like one long song. His beats are too predictable and his songs really don't have a concept...or a theme...or any other logical idea that would tie one line to the next. (Unless the theme is that he's a boss? *insert grunt here*).

Well now, that I've got that little bit of Rozay hate off my chest, the REAL reason for this post is to showcase how my boo Drizzy SPAZZED on this "Stay Schemin'" track. The beat is hot. French Montana sounds awful on the hook, and Rick Ross is doing what he usually does, but Drake swooped in, swagged a verse out, and saved the day! lol

One more thing: in my opinion, the song would have been better if Meek Mill wasn't just in the video, but on the song. But whatever. LOL

I Put On: Summer Leather Vest

"You aint gotta act if...clearly you're attracted. It's much more than a style..."

Anybody who knows me, know that I'm a huge fan of the whole "love rap songs" movement. (That's why it's so easy for me to be a Drake fan...duh!) "Body to Body" by Ace Hood? Loved it. "Another Round" by Fat Joe? Super heavy rotation on my iPod. (You see Chris Brown winning right?) So, when I stumbled across this song with Joe Budden singing (yes, singing), I LOVED it. I will admit, the lyrics are a little wild, but musically, this is amazing. His voice is great, the beat is smooth...I don't really know what more a music head could ask for.

Anyway, he's part of this group who calls themselves "Summer Leather Vest". At this point, I'm not really sure exactly who else is in the group or what everyone's role is, but the dude, Emanny is a decent singer and I wouldn't be surprised if the group had hits on deck. "Unison" is my favorite for now though. :) Once again, you're welcome.

(I'm gonna put the track here too, just in case the youtube video stops working one day...because that happens too often.)
